Don Saxton

Saxton Law Firm is led by our principal and owner, Don Saxton. Years ago Don was a music performance major and eventually settled on law school. Don started his career as an Appellate Clerk writing opinions for the Court of Appeals. Subsequently, Don worked for a nationally recognized civil justice law firm, Walters Renwick (wrrsvlaw.com) before moving on to form his own civil justice law firm, Saxton Law.

The organizing principle of the firm is to level the playing field for both individuals and small businesses when they are negotiating with a better-funded and more connected opponent. Don works tirelessly to ensure that his clients get the representation and edge that they need when confronting of a well-funded, corporate, opponent. The aim and purpose of Saxton Law Firm is to level the playing field for our clients, and to elevate their position so that the playing field is equal.

Don grew up in Independence, Missouri near the Truman Sports Complex – home of the Kansas City Chiefs and Royals. In college Don attended the Conservatory of Music at the University of Missouri, Kansas City on a music performance scholarship before moving on to earn his M.B.A. in business. He attended law school at the University of Missouri, Columbia, and eventually began his legal career working at the Missouri Court of Appeals writing legal opinions for an appellate judge. Subsequently, Don moved on from government service to a trial law firm, Walters Bender Strohbehn and Vaughan, www.wbsvlaw.com, located in the heart of downtown Kansas City. There he pursued many cutting edge cases focused on consumer protection, predatory lending and personal injury, several resulting in million dollar results. In 2008, after several years at Walters Bender, Don founded the Saxton Law Firm for the purpose of representing individuals who have been financially defrauded or physically injured. Don’s core philosophy is that no individual should lack a “key to the courthouse” merely because he or she does not have the assets for an attorney or is up against a large corporation. Every individual deserves the basic dignity of being able to vindicate his or her rights – even if they cannot afford thousands of dollars in legal bills. In addition to representing clients, Don has involved himself in the community in various ways. For instance, he served several years as the board chair of EITAS (formerly the Jackson County Board of Services) www.eitas.org, a government agency exclusively devoted to the empowerment and financial support of individuals with developmental disabilities. Don has served for many years on the legal panel for the ACLU where he investigates potential violations of individual rights and civil liberties on behalf of citizens in the Kansas City area. Don was previously on the Tax Increment Financing Commission in Jackson County whose sole purpose is to rehabilitate blighted and underprivileged areas within the County, and is presently a board member of the Recreational Council of Greater Kansas City, www.rcgkc.org, which serves the disabled community.
